PDFUnlockerr ("this site", "we") is built around a simple rule: your files never leave your device. This policy explains exactly what that means in practice, and lists the small amount of other data that does exist.

Your PDF and its password

When you use the unlock tool, your PDF file and the password you type are processed entirely on your own device, inside your browser. They are never uploaded, transmitted, logged, or stored anywhere — including on our own servers, because this site has no backend to send them to.

Once you close or reload the tab, the file, the password, and the unlocked copy are gone — none of it is ever written to a cookie, local storage, or anywhere else.

Accounts and sign-up

There are none. You can't create an account, and none is required to use the tool.

Cookies and analytics

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking scripts of any kind. The only thing stored in your browser is a single local-storage entry recording your light/dark theme preference, which never leaves your device.

Server logs

Like effectively any website, the static hosting provider that serves this site's files may keep standard, short-lived infrastructure logs of requests (e.g. IP address, user agent, requested path, timestamp) for security and reliability purposes. These logs are generated by the hosting infrastructure, not by any code in this project, are never used to identify individual visitors, and never contain the contents of a PDF or a password — those never travel over the network in the first place.

Children's privacy

This site does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. It has no accounts and no way to identify who a visitor is — the aggregate analytics described above aren't tied to a name, email, or any other identifying detail.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change with it. Given the site has no accounts or contact list, there is no mechanism to notify visitors individually — check back here if you want the current version.
